Waste Management

Building cleaner communities through responsible waste collection, segregation, and recycling across Rakhine State.

Tackling the Waste Crisis in Rakhine

Rakhine State faces significant challenges with solid waste management. Rapid urbanisation, limited infrastructure, and low public awareness have led to widespread littering, open dumping, and plastic pollution in rivers and coastal areas. Clean Rakhine is working to change this through community-led solutions, capacity building, and advocacy for better waste governance.

Our Programmes

Community Collection Systems

We help communities establish organised waste collection schedules, provide collection equipment, and train local coordinators to manage waste at the neighbourhood level.

Waste Segregation Training

Our workshops teach households and businesses how to separate organic, recyclable, and hazardous waste at source, reducing contamination and improving recycling rates.

Recycling Partnerships

We connect communities with local recycling enterprises, creating economic opportunities while diverting valuable materials from landfill and waterways.

Coastal & River Clean-ups

Regular clean-up drives mobilise hundreds of volunteers to remove plastic and other waste from beaches, riverbanks, and public spaces across the state.
