CLEAN RAKHINE Together for a Greener Arakan, tomorrow. "Building cleaner, healthier and more sustainable communities through environmental action, community participation and local solutions". Clean Rakhine (CR) is an independent,  community-focused non-profit civil society organization working to promote environmental protection, sustainable practices and community participation across Arakkha region, striving to be established as an effective, accountable and transparent institution in Rakhine state, Myanmar, with the goal of protection and rehabilitation of the vulnerable, and ultimately ensuring sustainable development of the local community. Clean Rakhine’s long-term dedication is to developing food security and livelihood aspect; enhancing the capacity of climate resilience; and empowering the vulnerable communities. Clean Rakhine is also dedicated to intervene with prolonged emergency responses (such as relief activities, water and sanitation, livelihood, MRE, Protection, child protection, etc.) during any acute and/or chronic emergency periods. The CLEAN RAKHINE was founded in 2018 by a group of young people in downtown of Sittwe . On February 3rd, it was formed based on environmental protection. The reason for the organization's emergence is owing to the increasing pressure and problems of environmental damage across Rakhine State. So CLEAN RAKHINE is actively involved in helping with their capacity on the mitigation natural crises and eliminating illegal littering and making cities clean and peaceful was the aim of establishing Clean Rakhine. The CR (Clean Rakhine) was previously registered in 2023 (Registration nb-6/Sittwe/021). As a motivated local NGO, Clean Rakhine is looking forward to working in hand in hand with the international organizations and other relative stakeholders in operating the dedicated mission, addressing the identified issues, and at the same time to developing the organization’s capacity. Summary. Clean Rakhine has worked with multiple CSO organizations in Arakkha region from 2019 to 2023 receiving four times of sub grants estimating from 3 million to 5 million in Kyats from LNGOs and INGOs. Through the grants and activities Clean Rakhine could- 1. Improved access to preventive material and knowledge of COVID -19 through community-based participatory (CBP) approach. 2. Improved food security for food-insecure households through nutrition diversification. 3. Improved income of households through climate-resilient on-farm agriculture productions and practices. 4. Maximized resiliency and reduced vulnerability of mine victims and households. Long term -objective ( Actions ): 1. To raise awareness among local communities about the effects of climate change and to reduce forest dependence in Rakhine State. 2. Enhancing the capacity and consciousness of climate-resilient livelihoods to help in alternating the income streams of forest-dependent populations. 3. To launch diversified commercial agricultural activities and to work with the market structure to develop value chain ideas among stakeholders. 4. To develop entrepreneurship skills in order to ensure the sustainable livelihood concept in rural areas. 5. To improve the practice of conflict mitigation and disaster risk reduction in community level . 6. To work with the government, local authorities, forest-dependent communities, local businessmen, community-based organizations, and related individuals in order to ensure the protection and restoration of natural resources in Rakhine. Fundamental principles and values: Humanity- Clean Rakhine values human life and dignity in any circumstance; and believes that indiscrimination shell be a major priority to each and every human being which promotes friendship, acceptance, respect, and peace amongst all people. Neutrality and Impartiality – Clean Rakhine demonstrates no discrimination of race, religion, and ethnicity in any situation. And the organization may not engage in any type of communal controversies. Inclusion and Diversity-Clean Rakhine respects the diversification in society and includes equal accessibility from the diverse nature of Age, disabilities, gender, sexual thoughts, etc. Professionality – Clean Rakhine confirms the transparency and accountability in the working environment/space, and declares that all the opportunities should be equal regardless of dedication to any devotion. Volunteer service and Independence –Clean Rakhine demonstrates effective action in the field, and physical presence alongside affected population regardless any influence. Sustainability-Clean Rakhine believes the humanitarian access, practice and impact should be meaningful and sustainable. Monitoring framework Clean Rakhine has a monitoring framework which includes several meetings in each step of activity with the community, HH level, village leaders, farmer group and authorities. The monitoring strategy will be applied during project implementation includes baseline monitoring, focus group discussion, HH visit, post distribution monitoring, post-harvest monitoring, end-line monitoring. Base on the result of comparation between end-line and baseline CR measure the outcomes of the project. Diversity and Inclusion. Clean Rakhine truly believes in Gender and diversity, and the sensitive livelihood approach which lead to more equitable, effective and efficient outcomes for all members in the community. Gender is often misunderstood to refer to issues related only to women and girls. In fact, Clean Rakhine's stands regarding Gender refers to the social differences between females and males throughout their lifecycle and, while deeply-rooted in every culture, are changeable over time and have wide variations both within and between cultures. Understanding of diversity-sensitive approach of Clean Rakhine is accepting and respecting the needs of groups that may be vulnerable based on their age, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and intersex), In this project Clean Rakhine will respect and priorities the gender base vulnerable group and include in the project cycle. Women headed with less income in the family household may be the most common vulnerable gender group in the villages, this group will be prioritized in each activity in the project. Organizational Skills and experiences. Clean Rakhine is formed with a group of people who have working experiences in the international humanitarian organizations in the different field (Finance and Admin, Logistic, Program, HR,), and the team is working together to develop the institutional strength. The directors of the Clean Rakhine have completed Masters in MPA, MBA with 9 years background in working in INGOs in Protection, MRE, WASH, M&E and Livelihood Rakhine State. With the spirit to establish a local institution in Rakhine and to develop the mitigation and production capacity of people in Rakhine, Clean Rakhine is currently working to improve the skill of staff members. Clean Rakhine is working to improve food security and livelihood for the conflict-affected population in Rakhine state through a multi-sectoral approach. In the past five years, Clean Rakhine worked with the partnership of LRC (Local Resource Center), RI (Relief International), and SI on the OD (Organizational Development) projects and assessments. Clean Rakhine is currently seeking to implement various projects if funded by the donors or international organizations. More specifically, from the 2019 to 2023 project period, Clean Rakhine has carried out- - OD project for three months during 2019 November – 2020 January - OD project for three months during 2021 February – April 2022 - OD grant for three months during 2023 July – 2023 September - Joint assessment conduct with the co-organizations such as Native Dream, SI (Scholar Institutes), Say Daw (Formerly known as La Chan Myay) and Women Generation. - Regular garbage cleaning at Sittwe Strand Road in both east and west side during 2019-2021 - Demonstrated the Covid-19 awareness precautions at the markets in 2020. - Awareness, dissemination sessions on the garbage and plastic maintenances at the local religious fair. - Tree plantation campaign with garbage cleaning with co-organizations at Sittwe strand road Gender mainstreaming strategy. Clean Rakhine is committed the inclusion of gender in CR’s operation which lead to more equitable, effective and efficient outcomes for all members in the community. Moreover, CR commits to integrating a gender mainstreaming plan throughout the project cycle. Measurement of Women’s vulnerability will take into account during project designing, and the specific needs of gender will be identified and addressed, such as the specific needs of PLW in terms of nutrition gaps and socioeconomic conditions of women-headed households, women’s dietary diversity status, etc.

Clean Rakhine’s mandate is to work with 4 main long-term aspects- I. How to properly dispose of waste to the people in the destination area. methods of reducing plastic consumption; In addition to sharing methods of recycling from waste materials II. Connecting and coordinating with relevant local organizations; It will be done through media and advocacy methods to get the local community involved. III. Supporting the vulnerable communities with all kinds of emergency responses whenever people face lifesaving issues due to arms -conflict, natural disasters, and other situations. IV. Ensuring sustainable food production systems and promoting climate-resilient agriculture practices that increase productivity and household income. V. Empowering the local community to enhance the economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high-value-added in agriculture and other rural production sectors. VI. Improving the capacity of the climate-vulnerable populations on climate change mitigation, adaptation and impact reduction.
